After discussions in XSL user group it became
apparent that this is a bug in eXcelon.
According to the specs this should work,
and it does work in Xalan and Saxon.

(This, of course, is the simplified version of a more complex issue.)

It does work.

Stylus is indeed behaving differently from XT. We'll look into it. Thanks for the report.

The next release of Stylus contains a fix for this bug. I do not yet have a release date.
