The default value for images in Stylus Studio XML Publisher is pt. Are there any other css measures allowed? If not, will they be? I am thinking of em, px and cm in particular.

There is no way to do that now; keep in mind that XML Publisher is not tied to HTML/CSS, and is meant to create reports that can be deployed as XSL-FO and possibly in the future in different formats. That means that we need to support those functionality that are supported by all (most) deployment models.
