Is there an easy way to define xslt output from a report as utf-8, perhaps in Stylus' settings? Otherwise rendering of é ä etc. breaks.

NB: I used to have a template with an xsl:output tag but don't know how to use templates in the XML Publisher.

There is no way to control that from Publisher, but you can add the <xsl:output encoding="UTF-8"/> instruction to the generated XSLT; is that what you need to do?

It is, but my instructions are not to touch the generated xslt in this workflow.
Our reports change often enough to make it desirable to skip working in the xslt.
The exported xslt is used by a program to render the report.
If I could only get code snippets to the xslt...

We understand your problem; we will add the possibility to control XSLT output encoding in the next release, or even maintenance package if possible.
