Cameron BrownSubject: XML Schema: Attribute Choice
Author: Cameron Brown

Hello All,

Here's a newbie question as I am new to XML..

Given....

<sample>
<item type="a|b">
<name>Widget A</name>
<price>19.95</price>
</item>
</sample>

What would the bit of the XML Schema look like that allows for either "a" or "b" for possible values of the type attribute? Either one or the other, not both or any other value or null.

I think I need to use "choice" but can't seem to get the syntax correct as every time I try to validate I'm told that it's not valid.

Thanks in advance.

Cameron

It's an 'enumeration' that you are looking for.

Here is a schema that will cause the XML you posted to be valid
only when type="a" or type="b".
