Tim CrewsSubject: Can't save modified .XSLT after run-time error
Author: Tim Crews
Date: 30 Jul 2007 11:50 PM
I am running the evaluation version of the Home edition of Stylus Studio.

When I debug a stylesheet, if there are run-time errors, a dialog appears that informs me of the error, and asks if I should jump to the location of the error. I answer yes, fix the error, and then try to save the file.

I am told that the file cannot be written because it is in use by another process.

It is not apparent that the debugger is still running. In the Debug toolbar, the "Start Debugging" button is enabled, and the "Pause Debugging" and "Stop Debugging" buttons are disabled.

The only workaround I have discovered so far is to remember the line location where the error appeared, quite Stylus Studio, open it again, fix the error, and save before trying to debug again. Of course, if there is another run-time error, the whole process repeats.

The debugger is not usable with this behavior.

Tim,

Could you please tell us which Stylus Studio build are you running (Help -> About -> Framework version)?

Which Java Virtual Machine Stylus Studio is using (Tools -> Options -> Java Virtual Machine)?

Would be possible to share a test case with us that demonstrates the sharing violation error?

Thank you for your help

Framework version is 894K, just downloaded today.

JVM is 1.6.0_01-b06

I would have to develop a special test case; I could not send you the actual code that I am developing, unfortunately. I will try to develop another test case when I get time.

Thank you for your response.

I think I have discovered the pattern.

Whenever the error message has to do with mis-matched xslt tags in the .xsd file I'm trying to execute (for example, forgetting to close an <xsl:for-each>, or matching up an <xsl:template> with an </xsl:variable> instead of an </xsl:template>, then I will be unable to save the .xsd file in which that error occurred, unless I exit Stylus Studio and start it again.
