It seems to me to be either an oversight or a false economy in saving 13Mb in the installer size. I would rather have the convenience of the help file always there, than the current situation.

But what really irks me is that when an update (eg, Build 894g to Build 894i) occurs, it kills the old ide.chm file and forces me to go through the download process again. AAAAGH!!

Can this installer behaviour be changed, please? Most installers allow copy/overwrite functionality to be altered easily.

Currently, I keep a copy of ide.chm elsewhere and copy it into the \doc\ folder. I'm not sure how frequently the IDE help changes (it is not great as it is, anyway).

The one I have saved has an MD5 of 2c07f2b699d64788a37b26fe8bdeeb76
(it has not changed with recent Builds, from 894d to 894i).

I can see how that can be annoying; the maintenance package installers remove the ide.chm file to give Stylus Studio a chance to download an updated online help file (as they often get updated when maintenance packages are released).

We are changing that process to handle versioning of documentation packages available online better, so that the problem you are experiencing won't happen again.

As a side note, even if 13MB may not seem a lot, they are between 15% and 45% of the current installation packages (depending on editions); and, believe it or not, most people never use online documentation, and they complain they need to waste time/bandwidth to always download it...

OK, that's fine with me. Thank you for the information, and I can put up with the current situation of course.
But when a new ide.chm is created, could you also put a link to it somewhere prominent so that it can be separately downloaded?
