Charlie YarnellSubject: Converting Text File
Author: Charlie Yarnell

I have just installed for evaluation Stylus Enterprise Suite Release 2 and am attempting to convert a text file (12HTHINV.TXT) which is an invoice file to a conversion file. However, in my text file I have a 1200 Invoice Header Record Type designated as Header2 Region Elementa nd following the 1220 are all the applicable 1202 Detail Record Types designated as Detail Region Element and was able create the conversion file. However, within the text file, it could have multiple 1200 Records with each followed by their appropriate 1202 Records. In creating the conversion file, how can I, every time it finds a 1200 record make it loop back to the Header2 Region and then in that loop creates it's following 1202's to the Detail Region.

I am attaching the 12HTHINV.TXT and PDIXML.conv files.

The answer is not to use regions.

If you note carefully in the dialog that comes up when you
try to create a region, most often the solution is to use
the node/pattern mechanism.

Regions are for specific chunks of the file which occur
in a specific physical location - for example, a fixed-size
header before a variable-length body. There is no 'loop'
mechanism.

Patterns can be used within regions to filter records, so
that each row matching the pattern can have a different
layout.
