Sebastian TomacSubject: nillable element of a type with an enumeration restriction
Author: Sebastian Tomac
Date: 18 Jun 2007 02:46 AM
Hi, I am having problem with nillable elements of a type with an enumeration restriction,

The schema looks as follows;

<xsd:element name="NextState" type="OrderbookState" nillable="true"/>

<xsd:simpleType name="OrderbookState">
<xsd:restriction base="xsd:string">
<xsd:enumeration value="Closed">
<xsd:annotation>
<xsd:documentation>
<desc>...</desc>
</xsd:documentation>
</xsd:annotation>
</xsd:enumeration>
<xsd:enumeration value="PreTrading">
<xsd:annotation>
<xsd:documentation>
<desc>...</desc>
</xsd:documentation>
</xsd:annotation>
</xsd:enumeration>
....

The xml:
<NextState/>

I get the xml validattion error;
Validation error on line 150625 column 3
The content "" of element <NextState> does not match the declared simple type. Value ""
violates the enumeration facet "ExtContTrade2, PreTrading, Cal..." of the type
OrderbookState (See http://www.w3.org/TR/xmlschema-2/#cvc-datatype-valid clause 1)

Is this correct? Should not the nillable="true" be evaluated before the type?

Hi Sebastian,
the nillable attribute should be specified as xsi:nil="true" (be sure
you added xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" at
the root element).

Hope this helps,
Alberto
