Nicolai JosuttisSubject: unsupportet URL scheme when trying to load WSDL file
Author: Nicolai Josuttis

Hi,
just trying out your tool by using it as WSDL viewer and editor
I got some remarkable failures.
I was expecting that it works as easy as decribed under
http://www.stylusstudio.com/webservices/wsdl_editor.html#

But
- 1st:
There seeme not even to be file extension support for WSDL files
(*.wsdl is neither supported nor recognized).
- 2nd:
I tried several different ways to load a WSDL file
all resulting in the error message
unresolved URL scheme '"'
(even for the original WSDL files of the WSDL reference manual)

Although I saw several people haveing the same problem,
the correspoinding answers seemd to bi a bit strange:
Probably when you tried to open it, you used the Web Service
Call Composer instead of the XML Editor.
You can fix the file association under Tools|Options.
You may want to read up on the WSCC to see how it relates to
WSDL files in the documentation. It is not a WSDL editor, but
is used to call web services that themselves expose WSDL.

What does that mean?
In the web site above you advertize
a WSDL viewer and the ability to load
a WSDL file into the Web services development tools suite.

And, by the way, the error message doesn#t seem to
explain much.

To be honest it's not very promising when
such an easy task doesn't work (intuitively).
But may be I am too stupid.

Best regards
Nico

You are right that .wsdl files are not automatically associated in Stylus Studio to a specific editor; as we don't position our tool as a WSDL editor, we have always tended to let the user choose the default operation when opening a WSDL file, but we understand your frustration, and we'll review the current strategy.

Apart from that, you should be able to:
- Create a new "Web Service Call Composer" document
- Enter (or browse) a WSDL URL in the field at the top of the editor

Once you do that, you should see the operations defined in the WSDL, and you should be able to test them.

If that's not working for you, can you tell us what WSDL URL you are trying to open? The error message you are receiving would hint to the fact that you are entering a URL format not recognized by Stylus Studio.

Thanks.

Thanks for the fast reply.

Hmmm, funny that you write
"as we don't position our tool as a WSDL editor"
as http://www.stylusstudio.com/webservices/wsdl_editor.html#
gives a different impression (that was the reason I downloaded
the tool).

To come back to the problem:
> Apart from that, you should be able to:
> - Create a new "Web Service Call Composer" document
> - Enter (or browse) a WSDL URL in the field at the top of the editor
That's what I tried and using the file browser was
the other thing I tried.

I did load a local file, which I add as attachment.

> Once you do that, you should see the operations defined in the WSDL,
> and you should be able to test them.
as I wrote I got the error message:
unsupported URL scheme '"'

Thanks and best
Nico

Yes, that web page stretches a bit the definition of "wsdl editor"... Web Service Call Composer really lets you view the operations defined in a WSDL, check what kind of SOAP requests the services expect, and test the services themselves.

What does it happen if you try to open the WSDL you just posted (http://www.stylusstudio.com/SSDN/upload/customer11.wsdl)?

I'm attaching the screenshot after opening it on my instance of Stylus Studio.

Indeed, e.g. I select the wsdl file in the file brwoser
and and open the document (using Web Service Call Composer)
and the error message comes up (see attached jpeg).
Although seeing your example, when I then
open the wsdl file again using the wsdl browser
button right from "WSDL URL" it works
(with WSDL 1.1, unfortunately not with 2.0).

Well after all, this tool seems not to help
me to get a convenient way of developing WSDL files
so I will remove the stuff from my laptop.

But you might solve the issue so that it doesn't frustrate people
like it did initially with me.

Thanks for the help.
Best
Nico
