Hi
I'm new in XML and I have a problem.
I make a XML file and a XSL file, and I want to see my XSL in IE.
Can I?
In Stylus Studio I saw the page.
Thanks

Are you asking how to display an XML document in IE using XSLT?

In the XML document, at the start, include the following:

<?xml-stylesheet href="...your document location..." type="text/xsl"?>

See http://www.webreference.com/authoring/languages/xml/insidexslt/chap2/2/
for more details

(Other sources indicate that the type should be text/xml but that IE
prefers the one I used above; try them both and see what works best
for your browser.)

I tryed how you say but it's don't work.
Anyway I find another method.

<html>
<body>

<script type="text/javascript">
// Load XML
var xml = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLDOM")
xml.async = false
xml.load("biblioteca.xml")

// Load the XSL
var xsl = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLDOM")
xsl.async = false
xsl.load("biblioteca.xsl")

// Transform
document.write(xml.transformNode(xsl))
</script>

</body>
</html>

It works but I think that there is a method from the Stylus directly.
How knows?
Merci

If you used the PI in my last response, you could preview the
output by loading the XML in Stylus Studio and using the
XML|Preview in Internet Explorer menu choice or toolbar button.

Alternately, you could load the XSL into Stylus Studio and
choose XSLT|Scenario Properties and check the box "Preview
result in an external application". Then if you generate HTML
and IE is your default browser, it will be opened and your
results will be shown.

My issue is that I want to send the files (.XML and .XSL) to another user and they open it in their browser. How can this be done or can it be done? I cannot seem to find this anywhere on your site, and it would seem useless to create an XSL file if it cannot be viewed by another user.

Hi Brian,
if you are using the latest version of Stylus Studio (2007 release 2), you can just open the XML file, run the XML | Associate XML with XSLT Stylesheet menu command, pick the XSL file, and save the modified XML. At that point, loading the XML inside IE will trigger the XSLT transformation and display the result in the browser.

Hope this helps,
Alberto

Alberto -
Thanks so much for getting back to me. I was able to it to work with your suggestion.
I was wondering if you or anyone might have a sample of some code for an XSLT that would display a directory structure (files) from XML. It sounds rather easy, but when you have multiple folders and files inside folders I cannot find a way to be recursive with XSL.

Thanks again,

-Brian

Hi Brian,
XSL is recursive by definition; once you define a template matching a "folder" node that manipulates the data and then invokes <xsl:apply-templates select="*"/>, the same template will be invoked again for the nested folders.

Hope this helps,
Alberto
