John SaundersSubject: Better Ability to Rearrange Projects
Author: John Saunders
Date: 10 Nov 2006 06:06 PM
I would like to be able to set the order of subfolders within a project folder.

Here's the most recent scenario:

I've been using part of my project to contain the XML files associated with particular defects in my web service. There can be a lot of files, given that the tool used to test the web service describes the tests in XML, and the SOAP messages sent are XML, and the results of the tests are XML...

I create a new file system folder for the defect, usually copying and changing the name of an existing folder with similar contents. I then drag that folder from File Explorer to the root of the defects area of my project.

Normally, defects arrive more or less in order. This causes the project folders to be more or less in order.

That is, until we get near the end of the project, and defects which were entered a week ago as Medium priority have been escalated to Urgent, leaving me working on defect 15100 right after 15200.

The above procedure will place 15100 after 15200 within the Defects folder. I'd like a way to rearrange the folders the same way we can rearrange files. I can drag subfolders up to their parent, which will place them right under their parent, which isn't what I had in mind. I can do that repeatedly, starting with the highest-numbered folder, and they'll all be in order - this gets tedious for 20 folders or so.

Please provide something like a "move up" button or command, or maybe a "drag line" at the top of the folder being dragged; when the drag line is between folders, it changes their position; when it's on a folder, the folder is highlighted, and you'd be moving one folder into another.

Whatever, just save me from spending so much time rearranging folders.

Thanks.
