Olivier KilSubject: Stylus connecting to eXcelon: class not registered
Author: Olivier Kil

Hello,

When trying to connect to eXcelon 2.1 DAP with Stylus we get an error-message stating that 'class not registered'.

So we can't connect with Stylus to a remote eXcelon. Anyone has the same problem or a solution?

Kind regards,

What versions of Stylus and eXcelon are you running? Have you run the eXcelon client installation on the machine with Stylus?

Hello,

We are currently running eXcelon DAP 2.1 on a NT Server 4.0 server with Service Pack 5. Stylus 2.0 on NT 4.0 Workstation.

The machine running Stylus 2.0 also has installed the client package as delivered with the eXcelon 2.1 installation.
From this machine we actually can access eXcelon with eXcelon Explorer and via eXcelon Management Console.

I hope this clarifies our situation a bit.

On the client, what is the content of your xlnclient.properties file (in the classes directory of your eXcelon installation)? On the server, which of DCOM and CORBA do you have enabled, and on what port?

Hello,

The contents for the xlnclient.properties are:

EXCELON_ADMIN_HOST=SPHINXTST01
EXCELON_ADMIN_PORT=1050
EXCELON_DEFAULT_AS_SIZE=131072
EXCELON_DEFAULT_CACHE_SIZE=32768
EXCELON_DEFAULT_CHECKPOINT_INTERVAL=10

We are using CORBA transport on port 1050 as well as DCOM transport.

Could it be that Stylus requires authentication? Because the server is running on a test-server which is not in our domain. The clients are in our Windows NT domain.

Try connecting to servername:1050. That will force the eXcelon client to use the CORBA transport instead of DCOM.

Hello,

We have tried the:
EXCELON_ADMIN_HOST=SPHINXTST01:1050
solution in the xlnclient.properties. But still we get the same error.

We have also tried switching on and off CORBA and DCOM transport on the server without result.

On the server Stylus works flawlessly btw.

What I'm suggesting is:

-Load Stylus
-Browse...
-Switch to eXcelon tab
-Click the "open server" button
-Type servername:1050 as the server name

Hello,

When switching in Stylus from "Open" - "File" to "eXcelon" the error already occurs.

After playing around on the server which has a Stylus installed as well I came across a remark "COM.API - Licence prohibits this operation" on the same action within Stylus.
Could this have something to do with the above problem?

Following up by email. This is no longer an interesting public discussion. If we find a general solution, we'll post it.
