Matt DawsonSubject: Questions/suggestions about these forums

Hi,

These might be issues with me rather than the website, but how do you:
1) Have the forums order threads by the last posting date, rather than the thread creation date? (Having to go through three pages of Feature Requests to get to at an active thread doesn't seem particularly intuitive).

2) Why do I get the following error when I use the Options / Mark Conferences Read feature?
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040e14'

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Could not find stored procedure 'WB6ASP_RebuildReadMsgIndex'.

/SSDN/WBMain.asp, line 135

3) Is there a way to mark the current conference read without having to delve down a couple of layers of links/menus?

4) How do I switch off having my email address publicly visible in the forums? I'm not particularly interested in spammers harvesting my email address from my posts...

Thanks,
Matt

The web software we use has several deficiencies, and you've
noted one of them. What helps is the 'Show New Messages/Show
All Messages' toggle in the upper right.

If you Show New, select the message you want, and then Show
All, you'll see all the context.

We recently upgraded the software, and the patch for some reason
didn't [re]create that procedure. It's been done manually; thanks
for pointing it out.

Not currently, but that sounds like a good idea. We'll see
if it's possible to add.

Taken care of for you.

Thanks for the reply and the assistance.

One last limitation I noticed as part of this thread - I'd selected the "Check this box to be notified via email when a reply is posted" option, so received an email when you replied. The problem was that it named the thread, but only provided a link back to http://www.stylusstudio.com/SSDN/ . As noted earlier, finding new posts in these forums is not straightforward so I would have hoped for a URL to the specific thread instead of the forum as a whole.

Is it possible for the email alerts to be updated to include a link to the thread n questions, or if it must remain static then change the URL to http://www.stylusstudio.com/SSDN/default.asp?action=16&WatchSubscribe=yes ? This URL would take you to your individual watched threads area, so at least you could more quickly locate the trigger for that email.

UPDATE: Actually the Watched Threads area only gives you a way to unsubscribe from the thread - I had expected you could "click through" the thread title to the content, so unless that feature can be added the changed static URL won't really help much either.

Thanks,
Matt
