Matthieu BriottetSubject: Performance bench
Author: Matthieu Briottet

Hello,

I would like to trace and evaluate performance (computing time) of my XQUERY requests. I tried to record the time at different point of the execution and substract the values I had but :
1) it seems not to be accurate enough (the currenttime function only gives hours:minutes:seconds).
2) I have troubles to store the values (the syntax I was given must be wrong)

Can anybody help?
I thank you by advance.

Matthieu.

You may be running into the problem that the XPath specification
says that function must be 'stable;' that means their values are
snapshot at their first execution time.

In order to profile XQuery (or XSLT for that matter), you need an
external mechanism.

If you were using Stylus Studio (who's support forum you posted
this question in), you could use the XQuery profiler. See
http://www.stylusstudio.com/xquery_profiler.html
This profiler works with several XQuery engines, including Saxon.

For a free evaluation version of Stylus Studio, see
