This is not true. Try doing a search in google for the email address you used when you signed up for the Developer Network. You will probably get a result with a similar link:
Not only can outsiders see your login name, they can see your whole profile. If you try to delete your profile, you will not find any option to do so in the entire site.

When you signed up for this bulletin board, you were given the option to hide your e-mail address. If you did not make that election when you signed up, you can change it at any time.
Log in to the bulletin board (I guess you already are :) and click on Options at the top of the window. Then click on "My Profile" and change anything you wish.
Now, your e-mail address will not be visible to other visitors.

I think you may be mistaken. A user's email address is not publicly displayed unless the user explicitly requests to have it displayed.
