Mathieu DesjardinsSubject: Trying to open a 80 MB XML file and the application hang or is very slow.

Hi, I am trying to open a 80 MB XML file and the only thing that I see is that my CPU is at 100% and that the application take a very long time to refresh. My computer is a Pentium 4 2.4 GHz with 1 GB of Ram using Windows XP.

Can anyone tell me why the CPU is hitting the 100% and that my memory is not used at 50%. And is there a way to open an 80 MB XML file with the the computer that I have.

Sorry if the answer was already given in another post.

Hi Mathieu,
does your file reference a (possibly complex) schema? Have you tried
raising the refresh interval for Sense:X (from Tools | Options,
Module Settings -> XML Editor)?

I have change the default setting but I don't have notice any change. When I try to to go somewhere in the doc (scrolling down) it takes a while to react and the CPU is at 100%.

Is there any others things that we can change to have the application react faster.

And can someone confirm that I can load a doc with this size with a computer like mine (P4 2.4, 1GB Ram, Windows XP).

Thanks

Hi Mathieu,
when you open a big file it's normal that the CPU goes to 100% for a
few minutes, as Stylus is parsing the file in the background in order
to perform syntax highlighting; but this should not prevent you from
working on the file, unless you are trying to display a page that
hasn't been parsed yet (e.g. if you press Ctrl-End to go to the end
of the file as soon as you open it)
You can experience much longer waits if line wrap is active (because
the file is on a single line, or because you requested it).

I just tried to load a 73Mb document on a P3 1.2GHz with 512Mb of
RAM: the CPU has been at 100% for over a minute after loading, but I
was able to browse the document without any delay.

Would it be possible for you to send us the (compressed) file at
stylus-field-report@stylusstudio.com?

Thanks,
Alberto

My file have many sub-schema and when we validate the file and try to get to the error, that's when it is very slow to move.

I can't give you the file because it's a file that contain a lots of thing for the gouvernment.

I have seen that I was using the release 2 of the software and now I will download the update for the release 3 and apply it very soon. Maybe it will help.
