Andrew BallardSubject: DIFF limits

I have two rather large XML files that I'd like to compare (12-14MB). I'm running a 2.6GHz Pentium 4 with 1GB RAM. After letting Stylus Studio "calculate" for over an hour, I finally had to end the program through task manager to regain any CPU to work with. Now I'm just curious about what limitations there are on dealing with documents this large. Is it possible?

Hi Andrew,

What affect XML Diff performance is the number of nodes rather the size of the document.

Could you try to tune the XML diff options?

Tools -> Options-> Module Settings-> XML Diff -> Engine
- switch to "Optimize calculation time"
- check "Optimize for Large Documents ..."

Hope this helps

Thanks. That seems to have done the trick. For kicks, I set it to run yesterday (before receiving your reply) with the default. The job ran for six hours while I was in various meetings and never did finish. I changed the settings as you suggested and it was done within a minute or two. :)
