How does on prevent the Stylus from inserting the root processing directives.

I am assuming you mean the generation of the two "built-in" templates for root/element and attribute/text. They are always there in the editor to let you visually see them when you are "backmapping" from the resulting text. Their presence in a file should not be causing problems since they are always implicit in any xsl stylesheet. However, per request, the next version of Stylus has a switch that allows you to suppress saving these to file. If you need a beta copy that has that fix, please send me an email.
