James DurningSubject: importing text documents

Is it possible to import the text of a non-xml text document into the output of an xml document without resorting to using a java function?
eg.
<messageList>
<message fileid="4010"/>
<message fileid="3202"/>
</messageList>

and then inside the files referenced by the file id attribute are some random non-xml text.
what I have:
<xsl:template match="/messageList">
<conversation>
<xsl:for-each select = "message">
<msg>
<xsl:value-of select="document(fileid)"/>
</msg>
</xsl:for-each>
</conversation>
</xsl:template>

Hi James,

XSLT 2.0 has a new function designed for this purpose

http://www.w3.org/TR/xslt20/#unparsed-text

You can experiment with XSLT 2 using Saxon 8 processor inside Stylus.

Hope this helps
Ivan
