Wayne WengertSubject: Tutorial Problem
Author: Wayne Wengert

I am treying to run the XSLT tutorial but when I get to steps 4 and 5 I drag the name element to the WYSIYG
canvas as directed I get the option to choose value-of but then nothing appears to happen? The field does
not appear on the canvas? I opened the XSLT source and dragged the field there and then it seems to work?
What is the right way to do this?

Hi Wayne,

We've notified our tecnical writers and are going through the tutorial now.
In the meantime, please see our videos on Visual XSLT Stylesheet design posted in
the video demonstration section, here: http://www.stylusstudio.com/learn_xslt.html
Granted this doesn't answer your question but we'll have a response to you today.

Wayne,

It seems like are doing it correctly, although the sitution you are describing indicates a problem. Just drag and drop an element from the xml source pane (on the right hand side) to the xslt wysiwyg canvas (on the left side), from the pop-up menu, choose "xsl:value-of",
and a placeholder should appear on the canvas. If you can't see the placeholder, then we just need you to check a few things for us to help troubleshoot.
firstly, can you switch to the XSLT source code tab and see if the <xsl:value-of select="..."/> statement has been inserted into the source code?
Do the placeholders not show up only for the xsl:value-of statement? what if you chose xsd:for-each or something else, do you see a placeholder now?
Also, what version of stylus studio are you using?

Sincerely,

It does not have this problem every time. This one specific case is repeatable - at least on my system.

I am using 5.3 179h build

Wayne,
Could you try with the latest version (click under Help -> Check for latest version)?

I tried to replicate the problem with 179i on my machine without success.

Ivan
