Mark JerdeSubject: Newbie: Subprojects, HTML-TO-XML IMPORTER
Author: Mark Jerde

I'm an XML and Stylus Studio newbie. I have the 30-day eval loaded
and working. A couple questions (sorry if they're FAQ's...)

1. I don't seem to be able to create projects under projects, e.g.,
subprojects. It would be handy to be able to do this. For example,
a project for the XML book I'm working through with subprojects
for all the chapters.

2. How do I go about importing HTML to XML as shown here?
http://www.stylusstudio.com/html_to_xml_screenshot.html

Thanks.

You can create "folders" in a project. Folders are logical entities, they
don't need to have a corresponding physical counterpart; they are the
closest concept to sub-project that Stylus Studio exposes.

If you import a whole directory structure into the project, folders will be
created by default in synch with sub-directories. Multiple items can be
added into folders by drag&dropping them from MS Explorer or similar file
system browser onto the project window.

File|Document Wizards
In the "XML Editor" tab, you'll see an entry named "HTML to XML"; double
click on it and provide the information required in the following step.

Hope this helps,
Minollo

The referenced link, however, promises the following:
"Existing HTML content has been separated into an
XML file and an associated XSLT stylesheet."

The document wizard appears merely to do a rather obvious
translation from HTML to an Untitled.xml. Nothing like the
screenshot appears to occur.

This on the evaluation (5.1 build 173m).

This particular feature (the screenshot promise) would
make Stylus Studio a killer app for our customers!

Yes, the description in the page is mis-leading.

The closest approximation to what the page describes is the HTML to XSLT
document wizard (available under the XSLT Editor category in the document
wizard dialog): that will create a stylesheet given an HTML page that
renders the same page you have imported when run.

Switching to the WYSIWYG tab you can achieve what the screenshot is
displaying: you can substitute static fields with dynamic ones (without
writing XSLT code) coming from an XML document; it is not true, however,
that we separate content in an XML document referenced by the XSLT; I'll
ask our webmaster to review that page more carefully.

If you review the video tutorial available from
http://www.stylusstudio.com/xml_videos.html titled
"<http://www.stylusstudio.com//videos/tutorial4.wmv>

Converting Static HTML" (http://www.stylusstudio.com/videos/tutorial4.wmv)
you'll have a good idea of how the process I have quickly described above
would work

Thanks,
Minollo
