Minollo I.Subject: Stylus Studio 4.5 now available
Author: Minollo I.
Date: 16 Oct 2002 03:07 PM
Stylus Studio 4.5 (BL103e) is now available.

If you are a 4.0 user, you can upgrade to the new 4.5 version:
http://www.stylusstudio.com/update (4.x section)

Here is a list of the major changes in 4.5:

**** XML-to-HTML WYSIWYG Editor ****
Stylus Studio Release 4.5 provides a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get)
feature for defining a stylesheet that generates HTML. Click the WYSIWYG
tab in the XSLT editor. If the output for the current stylesheet is set to
HTML, Stylus Studio displays a canvas in which you can
- Enter and format text
- Insert forms, buttons, checkboxes, text areas, images, and tables
- Drop nodes, which you drag from the XML source tree, and select XSLT
instructions for operating on those nodes
At any time, you can view the result document by clicking the Preview XSLT
Result button.
Stylus Studio synchronizes the XSLT Source and WYSIWYG tabs. You can edit
your stylesheet in either tab, and the result is evident in the other tab
as well.

**** Automated XML Schema Documentation ****
Stylus Studio can now generate documentation for XML Schema documents. The
generated report includes
- Diagrams that represent simple and complex types
- Schema document properties such as the target namespace, and element
and attribute namespaces
- Global declarations
- Global definitions
- Sample XML instances from specific schema fragments
- Legend and glossary
To view the automatically generated documentation, open an XML Schema
document in Stylus Studio, and click the Documentation tab.

**** Support for MSXML .NET and Saxon Processors ****
This release of Stylus Studio supports the use of two additional external
processors: the MSXML .NET and Saxon XSLT processors. Support includes the
use of the Stylus Studio debugger when you are using these processors.
To use an external processor that you supply, click the Processor tab in
the Scenario Properties dialog box, and select the procesor you want to use.
To run the MSXML .NET processor, you must install the Microsoft .NET
runtime framework on your machine. This is available as a recommended
update at Microsoft through the Internet Explorer update feature or at
http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframework/downloads/sp/default.asp.

**** Document Wizard for Converting Text to XML ****
Stylus Studio now includes a document wizard for converting text to XML.
The text file must be a comma separated value (CSV) file or a fixed width
file. A CSV or fixed with file is an ASCII text file that can be treated as
table in that it implements the concepts of rows and columns.

**** Additional and Enhanced Sample Applications ****
Stylus Studio includes two new sample applications and a built-in project
that includes the files for all sample applications. This section discusses
the following topics:
- Sample Application for Generating Scalable Vector Graphics
- Stylus Studio now includes a sample stylesheet that generates Scalable
Vector Graphics (SVG). This stylesheet is in the examples\SVG directory of
your Stylus Studio installation directory. The chart.xsl stylesheet
operates on the chart.xml source document to generate an XML document that
contains SVG elements. For Stylus Studio to display the rendered SVG, you
must have an SVG viewer installed.
- Stylus Studio Project Contains All Sample Applications
- Stylus Studio now includes an examples project for convenient and
immediate access to all Stylus Studio sample applications. To automatically
load the examples project, start Stylus Studio by selecting Start |
Programs | eXcelon Stylus Studio | Examples project.

**** XQuery Technology Preview ****
Stylus Studio Release 4.5 features a technology preview of the editor,
processor and debugger for XQuery. The basic level of XQuery support as
specified in the latest W3C working draft is provided. See the examples
directory in your Stylus Studio installation directory for sample files
that you can use to experiment with Stylus Studio XQuery features.
Also, the XQuery processor is available from the command line so that you
can run XQuery programs outside Stylus Studio but use the Stylus Studio
XQuery processor. Specify stylusxql on the command line.
