Subject: Re: OASIS catalog support Author: Steven Noels Date: 30 Sep 2002 05:49 AM

If it helps: I send a similar enquiry to Altova some time ago, and apparently, it has been added to their latest version:
"XMLSPY 5 now supports a subset of OASIS XML catalogs. These catalogs allow XMLSPY 5 to retrieve the most commonly used Schemas, Stylesheets and other files, which are available on the web, from users local folders. This increases the overall processing speed, and eliminates the need to be connected to Internet, which is helpful when you are on the road with your laptop.
The catalog is controlled via two files: MainCatalog.xml, which contains predefined entries to Schema and other files, installed with XMLSPY 5, and CustomCatalog.xml which allows you to make your own catalog extensions. Schemas, Stylesheets and other files are installed in specific subfolders of the XMLSPY 5 installation folder.
Please note:
Although the April 7th. 1999 and Oct. 2000 Schema for Schemas DTD are included in the main catalog, you cannot validate your instance files against either of these schemas. The purpose of these two DTDs is to provide entry helper info for editing purposes, should you wish to create files according to these older recommendations."
Lack of Oasis catalog support is one the reasons DTD validation is often not done. And there exists a catalog-aware entity resolver in the Apache XML Commons project (Java however).
So... please?
Thanks!
Steven.
