Hans-Peter KüchlerSubject: SS4 build91: error handling readonly files
Author: Hans-Peter Küchler

Hi, I'm using SS4 in conjunction with visual source safe. There is one project with many files. some files are checked out and other files are not checked out (read only). But I've some read only files open to look for details. The read only files are not changed, there is no asterisk after the filename. If I select the command "save all", SS4 shows a message box with the question "file ... is not checked out: do you want to checkout it now?". But the file isn't changed, so there is no need to checkout. So I press the button "No" and SS4 get on my nerves again with the next message box: "file ... The file is read only. You must save to a different filename". If I select "Cancel" some really changed files will not be saved.
Is it possible to track the status (changed/unchanged) of open files for the "save all" command?

regards, Hans-Peter Küchler

We understand the problem; I'm filing a bug for this one. It will likely be addressed in the next 4.0 update build.

Thanks,
Minollo

Hi, what is the "next 4.0 update build"? Is it 4.0.91c? Where can I find the information on the changed/repaired features for the minor builds with only the last character changed?

regards, Hans-Peter Küchler

91c is a minor build upgrade, usually triggered by show stopper issues
reported by customers. In this case, 91c was triggered by a problem in
Mapper, a problem in invocation of Java constructors by Java code and a
problem in the "register extension" dialog in Mapper.

Before replying posting to the SSDN that those problems had been fixed by
91c, we are waiting for a confirmation from involved customers that 91c
actually fixes the issues they reported (as we have been working "offline"
with them).

Issues like the one you reported (which is not classified as a
show-stopper) will be addressed in either a new sub-build (91x) or in a new
build altogether. When that will happen, we'll reply to the SSDN thread(s)
affected by the fix to let you know the problem has been addressed.
