Julien LirochonSubject: Problem with xmlns in shemas ?
Author: Julien Lirochon

Hello !

I'm a newbie and I'm experimenting problems when validating this schema. I don't know if the problem comes from me or from Stylus Studio :

targetNamespace="http://www.bouletz.net/page"
xmlns:gst="http://www.bouletz.net/guestbook">

Stylus Studio says : file://c:\test\page.xsd:4,50: Attribute '{http://www.w3.org/2000/xmlns/}gst' is not declared for element 'xsd:schema'

here is the (well formed) guestbook.xsd :

targetNamespace="http://www.bouletz.net/guestbook">

Could someone help me please ?
Thanks a lot !

ok, lets repost the 2 files :

* page.xsd (main schema)

{?xml version="1.0"?}
{xsd:schema xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"
targetNamespace="http://www.bouletz.net/page"
xmlns:gst="http://www.bouletz.net/guestbook"}

{xsd:import namespace="http://www.bouletz.net/guestbook" schemaLocation="c:\test\guestbook.xsd"/}

{xsd:element name="page"}
{xsd:complexType}
{xsd:sequence}
{xsd:element ref="gst:message" minOccurs="1" maxOccurs="unbounded"/}
{/xsd:sequence}
{/xsd:complexType}
{/xsd:element}
{/xsd:schema}

* guestbook.xsd (imported schema)

{?xml version="1.0"?}
{xsd:schema xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"
targetNamespace="http://www.bouletz.net/guestbook"}

{xsd:element name="message"}
{xsd:complexType}
{xsd:sequence}
{xsd:element name="pseudo"/}
{xsd:element name="body"/}
{/xsd:sequence}
{/xsd:complexType}
{/xsd:element}

{/xsd:schema}

The problem is that Stylus Studio, due to limitations in the underlying XML
engine, is still using DTD to validate XML Schema; and unfortunately DTDs
don't understand namespaces. So, when you try defining your own namespace,
the DTD validation prompts an error.

You can workaround the problem Stylus Studio\bin\Plugins\Configuration
Files\xmlschema.dtd adding your xmlns:gst attribute to the definition of
xsd:schema; otherwise, you will have to ignore the error until the
underlying Xerces engine doesn't fix the problem.
