We have recently fixed this bug; it should happen only if you have an
expanded XSLT variable in the Watch window and if you change then XSLT
context to a position where the "watched" expanded variable is no more
associated to a tree fragment value.

It's fixed in the 3.1 final release build which will be available shortly.
