David BrownSubject: Use Stylus Studio to edit Stylus Studio comment block
Author: David Brown

I would like to be able to use Stylus Studio itself to edit the <metadata> stored in a file's trailing comment block. Perhaps there could be a little toolbar button that could open at least an editable tree view.

This would help facilitate manipulation of, for example, XSL scenarios that are not possible or are unnecessarily cumbersome through the current Stylus Studio interface.

David, You can edit the metadata with Stylus Studio by opening the .xsl file as an .xml document.

First, close the .xsl document if it is already open (not strictly necessary, but it is safer if you don't have it open in two document windows at the same time :)

Select File|Open.
Navigate to the .xsl file you want to modify.
Single click on the .xsl file name.
The right half of the "Open" button has a drop-down arrow. Click on it.
Click on "XML Editor".
Your document is now open in an XML editor and you can modify the meta-data to your hearts content.

Have fun,
Clyde

Well, the metadata comment can be edited as plain text, which is not quite contenting my heart :-). I was hoping for a facility by which that metadata could be edited *as XML* -- basically ignoring the fact that it's in a comment tag and parsing the <metadata> tag as if it were the root of a document. With support for checking for well-formedness, clicking through a tree, closing tag completion, and that sort of thing.

This would help ensure that I didn't mess things up when trying to fix them.

Quite possibly I'm the only one who has ever wanted to do this and it would be more work than it's worth.

It seemed, though, that since Stylus Studio is obviously aware of this structured content hiding inside the comment, it would be a logical tool for manipulating it in an intelligent manner.

Hmmm... maybe I could use a few regular expressions to modify that comment into a regular tag and back again.

Thanks for pointing out the open button's menu, though... that will probably help some.
