Michael HightSubject: XQuery and Relational Data mapping----newbie questions
Author: Michael Hight

Hi

I am newbie to XQuery and Stylus Studio and would like to include this in our current prototype but have a few reservations.

Q: Does XQuery support the constraints on the tables while mapping relational data to xml? I mean to say that we have a complicated schema, it is relational, but I am wondering if this ide with xquery is going to be able to keep all the primary foriegn key relationships when extracting the data to xml??

Q: How would I use a look up to get the value out of the database and look up what that value means in the look up table and then insert the appropriate value in the xml?

Thanks so much
Best Regards,
Michael

Hi Michael

Q1) When running XQuery against relation sources what you get as output is an XML view of the same data. If you need to enforce some data constraints on the query result you will need to design an XML schema to validate your documents.

Q2) In XQuery you can access multiple documents/views; perform a lookup is easy as write an XPath predicate.

Hope this helps
Ivan
