Gunnar KaysenSubject: replace question
Author: Gunnar Kaysen

Hi,

I have for example following input string "H↓2↓O" which I need to transform to "H2O".

Question for me is
1. How do I match the part that is in between two "↓" (U2193) occurences?
2. How do I enclose this with the tag in the output and leave the rest untouched.

Thanks very much for your help!

Here is an idea using XQuery

declare variable $text:= "H↓2↓";

for $token at $p in tokenize($text, "↓")
return
if($p mod 2 = 0) then <sub>{$token}</sub>
else $token
