Megan DouglasSubject: SYNTAX not working
Author: Megan Douglas

I have a file in Excel -
(Excel file is all numbers)

I can open Excel in SPSS (version 16)

I am trying to use a syntax (used previously as text file) and will now not run on excel file

Syntax begins:

DATA LIST FILE = ‘C:\driveandlocation.xls” (not the actual file name, but close)

***
please see below for the warning I receive when I run the syntax: (there are more 1102, but I didn't want to totally bombard you)

***
>Warning # 1102

>An invalid numeric field has been found. The result has been set to the

>system-missing value.

>Command line: 20 Current case: 1 Current splitfile group: 1

>Field contents: '!'

>Record number: 1 Starting column: 18 Record length: 8192

>Warning # 92

>The limit of MXWARNS warnings in this data pass has been printed. Further

>warnings have been suppressed.

**
What is really strange, is that the syntax is performing all command, EXCEPT the first command, which is reading the original excel file

If you can please tell me where I went wrong, I would appreciate it greatly!
