rachel collingridgeSubject: xsl:fo - unable to use any font except Times New Roman
Author: rachel collingridge

I have an xsl stylesheet containing xsl and xslfo. I have set up a scenario to transform the xsl with the required xml, then perform post-process with the supplied Apache FOP.

This all works as expected, except that only Times New Roman fonts are displayed, any other font request causes the error message "unknown font Arial, normal, normal so defaulted font to any".

I chose to buy Stylus Studio over XMLSpy, because the IDE and preview mechanism are so much better. However at least XMLSpy's FOP add-on will render the required font without additional configuration.

Any answers please?

Hi Rachel,

Sorry if took so long

Attached to this message you can find a simple utility for configuring True Type fonts in Apache FOP.

- Please unzip the content into <Stylus Studio Folder>\bin\Plugins\Fop
You should see two new files fonts.bat and fonts.jar

- Start a command prompt as Administrator, see screenshot attached RunCommandPromptAsAdmin.png

- cd to <Stylus Studio Folder>\bin\Plugins\Fop

- run fonts.bat

After the command completes you will have a sub folder “fonts” and a new file called userconfig.xml

At this point you should be able to use all True Type fonts compatible with FOP in in your system.

See attached screenshot Font-Harrington.png

Hope this helps

Hi Ivan,

thanks for your response. I had in the meantime painfully created a few font.xml files plus manually coded up a userconfig, but using your easy-to-follow-instructions I now have all the fonts I'll ever need at my disposal.

Thanks,
Rachel.

Hi,

I have followed this process, however stylus studio appears to ignoring the userconfig.xml file during post processing.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi Pat,

Could you verify in the scenario dialog, that Apache FOP is the post processor currently active?

Can you see any error in the Output window which logs the FOP execution?

If that's the case, please upload a full test case here.

Hope this helps
