Tim HopkinsSubject: File types that can be mapped using Stylus
Author: Tim Hopkins
Date: 29 Apr 2004 01:17 PM
I am new to the Stylus Studio Developer Network.
My questions is can I use the mapping functioality
that comes with Stylus Studio to map to or from
a non-XML file. For example can I map from a comma
delimited file to a fixed length file?

Stylus Studio mappers are based on XQuery and XSLT; both mappers require to
work against XML data sources and generating XML output.

You can convert a comma delimited file, or a fixed length file into XML
(File|Document Wizards...), map the result XML into a different XML
structure, possibly aggregating/transforming/joining it with a variety of
heterogeneous data sources.
Currently Stylus doesn't support automatic transformation of XML back to
CSV or other text formats.

We are in working to the creation of a new "adapter" framework that will
allow you to get closer to what you are trying to achieve; but even when
that's done, Stylus Studio will still assume that transformed and
aggregated data is available and manipulated as XML.

Hope this helps,
Minollo
