Adam Van den HovenSubject: Problems validating Schema with circular includes.
Author: Adam Van den Hoven

I'm trying to create a useable XML Schema for Qualified Dublin Core (no easy task). I'm running into a problem when I try to create a circular imports.

I can't really explain it. I'm going to attach 3 files.

dcmes-dc.xsd is an XSD for the basic dublin core elements. It imports dcmes-rdf.xsd which is provided only to ensure everything validates. dcterms.xsd is the xsd for the dublin core qualifiers and encoding schemes.

If you validate dcterms, you have no problems (probably becuase dcmes-dc does not yet have any dependancies on dcterms). However, if you validate dcmes-dc, you get two errors basically saying that the relevant pieces from dcmes-dc cannot be found in dcterms.

Its really annoying since circular imports should be possible.

Adam

Documentdcmes-dc.xsd
This one fails to validate

Documentdcterms.xsd
This one validates

Documentdcmes-rdf.xsd
This one is along for the ride.

Hi Adam,
it looks like this is a problem in the Xerces validator; we are forwarding
your testcase to them.

Thanks for the report,
Alberto

If this is in the bugzilla, can you post the URL to the issue so we/I can track it.

Also, if this is a xerces issue, will we be able to take and replace those classes our selves or will we have to wait until you release it.

Hi Adam,

I haven't submitted the bug yet; while I was working on the testcase to
submit, I found out that Xerces could validate the schemas, if it is able
to recognize that a circular import is happening by matching the file names
(they don't match now because we use temporary files).
In short, there is the possibility that we can workaround this bug (or
intended behavior) inside Stylus in the next days.

Unfortunately this is not possible (in general); the version of Xerces we
ship is not the official release (for Stylus 4.5, the official release
would be Xerces 2.1). It has a number of customizations (like ICU 2.0),
patches coming from the "live" CVS repository, and patches that we
submitted but that haven't been committed yet. So, we cannot guarantee that
a renamed xerces-c_2_1_0.dll is binary compatible with the xmlengine.dll
you can find in the Stylus installation (that's why we have to give it a
custom name).

Hope this helps,
Alberto
